Biodynamic vs. Organic

If you have been following my blogs, you may have encountered the word, Biodynamic. Today we will take a dive into what it means and why it matters. Is it just an expensive adjective that makes a product sound more scientific? I am here to share what the difference between biodynamic and organic is.

Let’s start with what we understand about organics. From the Merriam Webster dictionary definition: “of, relating to, yielding, or involving the use of food produced with the use of feed or fertilizer of plant or animal origin without employment of chemically formulated fertilizers, growth stimulants, antibiotics, or pesticides”. To sum this up, organic food and products do not use chemicals or other genetically modified organisms, when cultivating food, or in the products used. Organic products is what most health aware people use because it has grown as an industry as more people want to be healthier. I believe in organic living, and use it in my daily life to be healthy in my food, and the products I use. However, is organic the only form of product certification that promotes healthy living? The answer is not anymore; there is biodynamic living.

Basically, biodynamic is a step above organic produce and products. Organic products as well as biodynamic products are both grown without the use of chemicals or GMO, however, biodynamic practices create healthier plants replenish the soil by adding life and energy to the plant, soil and/or livestock. They are truly sustainable! In an article by Biodynamic Association says, Biodynamics is rooted in the work of philosopher and scientist Dr. Rudolf Steiner, whose 1924 lectures to farmers opened a new way to integrate scientific understanding with a recognition of spirit in nature. The farms that are used to cultivate OWAY Products are inspired by the diversity of natural ecosystems. From annual and perennial herbs, flowers, berries, grains, pasture, native plants, the Biodynamic Association also relates to us that every one of these parts to nature can contribute to plant diversity, amplifying the health and resilience of the farm organism.
